Dr Martin Baggaley
Chief Medical Officer
Dr Martin Baggaley serves as the Assistant Director for Medical Affairs at the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai, he also holds the role of Chief Medical Officer, Maudsley Health. Dr Baggaley is a general adult psychiatrist, and is licensed to practice by the United Kingdom General Medical Council and HAAD, he is a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK and is approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
Dr Baggaley qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1984. He served in the British Army from 1985 until 1997 assuming Consultant status from 1993. His undertook a Senior Lecturer in Military Psychiatry for 4 years and for 2 years was Head of Division at the Defense Services Psychiatric Centre, Catterick. When Dr Baggaley left the Army in 1997 he was appointed to a Consultant Psychiatrist post at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and senior lecturer in psychiatry for the Guy’s, King’s College and St Thomas’s Hospitals’ Medical and Dental School.
During his time at the Maudsley, Dr Baggaley was Clinical Director of Adult Mental Health Services in the borough of Lewisham and was training scheme organiser and a MRCPsych Examiner for 10 years. He also undertook the role of Executive Medical Director for the Maudsley Hospital in the UK for 9 years before moving to the UAE in October 2016.

Dr Baggaley has extensive knowledge of psychopharmacology and has also been trained in, and delivers Cognitive Analytic Psychotherapy (CAT).
Dr Baggaley believes in and practices a patient centric, holistic approach using both psychological and pharmacological interventions. He believes in continuity of care and respects the wishes and choices of patients. Dr Baggaley uses the latest evidence based treatments and believes in value based health care with a strong emphasis on outcomes.
His clinical work is currently undertaken at the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital where he holds responsibility for one of the wards.
