Abir Aoun

Abir Aoun has recently joined the adult mental health team as a clinical psychologist licensed with the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi (HAAD). She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology, and post-graduate degree in clinical psychology from the Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon. Abir has received extensive training in psychoanalytic therapy from the Circle of Psychoanalytic Studies of Beirut. She has also been certified with specialised training in behavioral and cognitive therapy from the Lebanese Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ALTCC).

Abir has practiced in various inpatient and outpatient settings across Lebanon and the UAE. She worked as a group therapist at the Psychiatric Hospital of the Cross for seven years, and a Psychotherapist at Nawfal Clinics, both in Beirut, Lebanon. Prior to joining Maudsley Health, Abir gained experience in the UAE as a clinical psychologist at an outpatient service where she conducted a series of individual sessions with adults that presented with a variety of different mental health problems including depression, anxiety, grief, traumas, personality disorders, relationship problems, and adjustment disorders.

Abir uses an integrative clinical approach tailored to the patient’s needs and incorporates elements of psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). She works with patients by helping them establish more effective mental health coping mechanisms, build resilience and foster a better understanding of their current emotional and behavioral impairments, which can lead them to identify and achieve their goals
