Consultant Psychiatrist and Lead Clinician, Adult Mental Health Service
Dr Mohamed Abdel-Maksoud is a senior consultant psychiatrist and lead clinician for the adult mental health services at Maudsley Health, Abu Dhabi. As part of the senior management team of Maudsley Health, he is currently based in Dubai undertaking an Acting Assistant Director for Medical Affairs role for the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Hospital for Mental Health.
Dr Abdel-Maksoud graduated in 1997 from the prestigious Ain Shams University in Egypt and completed three years of post-graduate psychiatric training in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He obtained Membership of The Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2007 and completed his higher specialist training in general adult psychiatry at South West London and St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, in London.
He obtained the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in general psychiatry from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in January 2011. He then worked as a consultant psychiatrist in Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, in South East England, until he moved to the U.A.E in September 2012. He worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the Behavioural Sciences Institute in Al Ain Hospital from 2012 until May 2018. Dr Abdel-Maksoud has extensive specialist experience in the diagnosis and management of complex mental health problems.
He has worked internationally for the last 15 years, in both acute psychiatric wards and outpatient clinics settings, managing a wide range of mental health disorders including:
– Delusional disorders
– Acute psychosis
– Drug induced psychosis
– Bipolar affective disorder
– Generalized anxiety
– Panic attacks
– Social phobia
