Dr Sharpley did her first degree in psychology at University College London. This was followed by research into Psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences (IOPPN), King’s College London, for which she received a Young Scientist Award to present her work, before embarking on a Clinical Psychology Doctorate at the IOPPN.
Having had experience of working clinically across the age range, Dr Sharpley specialised in working with children and young people. As a Consultant Clinical Psychologist she has experience of working with the full range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorder, attachment difficulties and eating disorders, with particular expertise in obsessive compulsive disorder.
Dr Sharpley offers evidence-based therapies including behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, systemic therapy, mentalization-based therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based-cognitive therapy, and solution-focused therapy. She also has significant experience of assessing (both cognitively and behaviourally) and working therapeutically with people who have learning disabilities as well as providing couple therapy, family therapy and running parenting groups. She has a particular interest and expertise in assessing and treating neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD).
Dr Sharpley recently worked as the Clinical and Strategic Lead for a Neurodevelopmental and Learning Disability Service in the UK. In this role she was instrumental in setting up and clinically leading all aspects of the service whilst offering specialist ASD and ADHD diagnostic assessments, neuropsychological assessments and evidence-based therapeutic treatments as well as providing expert second opinion for complex presentations. Dr Sharpley has strong experience in managing, leading, and clinically supervising others as well as teaching on a clinical doctorate training programme in the UK for which she was also the chair of the selection committee.
Dr Sharpley has experience of developing staff well-being and improving workforce engagement in public sector, charitable and corporate organizations as well as providing mentoring, coaching, mediation and consultation on strategy, audit and measuring achievement/outcomes.
Dr Sharpley works for Maudsley Health as the Head of Psychology at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, Dubai.
